Apple Bobbing & Spiriting on Sleepy Hollow Isle

As leaves begin to fashion their seasonal colors, signs of all hallows eve have sprung up around town. On my island, folks here go the extra mile to dress-up their yards and homes with the most innovative Halloween designs. Every year I question, who will out do their neighbor this year? Last week on my bike ride, I decided to put on my 'costume' and be an island journalist, taking photos and greeting neighbors to comment on their cleverly put together themes.
As I rode past some houses I couldn't help but wonder why folks choose certain designs for the holiday, as some were humorous and others downright scary. There is one house where the owners follow a yearly tradition using original antique designs from the 50's. I make it a point to visit this house each holiday as they change up the artwork from year to year. I must admit, with the mechanics and lighting that I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of the electric bill! However, I am certain it's is a wonderful gesture, and young and old alike certainly enjoy their effort. I know i do!
For those who are curious about the history of Halloween click here: http://www.halloween-history.org/ I learned the holiday is celebrated in many countries, and began over 2000 years ago with the Celts. Not surprisingly there are religious connections to the holiday depending on the country. For those who decide to go out, be safe and watch for the kiddies running about eagerly shouting 'trick or treat' !!!

Though I no longer celebrate Halloween, I still am curious about people's decorations -- indeed, people should understand why certain holidays are observed, and the history behind them. 'Love the photos.
