One's Practice Regardless of your Belief System

I sit around today after going to work on a day I normally have off. As I begin to leave, think about how busy my days are and not having time to sit down and reflect. Everyone needs time to sit quietly and reflect back on the week, review any goals you may have set, think about what you did not accomplish or want to, and may be just make future goals. My week was super busy and filled with numerous interruptions and distractions at work, all of which made me feel as though I did not accomplish much in the way of tasks still on my desk. Why is it we have days like this and when we look back we think I did absolutely nothing and yet I feel exhausted? Days like this I return home feeling exhausted and then try to take care of house chores, cooking and just catching up with the family, and even that at times seems insurmountable, and then it all begins again. I'd like to sit in my little special room and put my feet up, perhaps even meditate, read, and maybe just day dream a little but time eludes me. I just began the practice of walking around our local lake - about 3.5 miles in total, and perhaps this is the start of doing some quiet thinking, walking meditation, and just reflecting on the past days and weeks to come.
Something I read today from H.H. Dalai Lama that is good to practice: PRACTICE WHAT YOU BELIEVE "In order to carry out a practice—such as constantly watching the mind—you should form a determination, make a pledge, right when you wake up: “Now, for the rest of this day, I will put into practice what I believe just as much as I can.” It is very important that, at the start of the day, we should set out to shape what will happen later. Then, at the end of every day, check what happened. Review the day. And if you carried through for that whole day your morning’s determination, then rejoice. Reinforce further your motivation to continue in the same line. However, when you do your reviewing, you may discover that you did things during the day that are contrary to your religious values and beliefs. You should then acknowledge this and cultivate a deep sense of remorse. Strengthen your resolve not to indulge in these actions in the future" H.H. Dalai Lama

Yes, I think those of us who attempt to take the time to really "see", "hear" and "taste" ALL that life has to offer is the more BLESSED. It is a challenge to be CONSCIOUS of changing behaviors already set, thinking that time (which is fairly relative) is something we can contain...all we have is what we have done in terms of actions...TO LIVE BY OUR BELIEFS and not just talk the talk...there truly is so much...we just have to sit and look and listen...
